Inkscape is a completely free program to create, edit and work with vector graphics, including SVG and EPS files. Vector graphic is used by professionals to create logos, icons, posters and different designs which will not lose quality when are resized (for example, a banner made on computer and used as a huge street banner needs to be made as scalable vector).

The program provides useful editing tools including rules and grids, supports layers, group and ungroup different elements like in Adobe Illustrator, use different tools for selection, paths, shapes, text and more.

Inkscape has a very intuitive interface with various tools available on all sides of the screen. You may need to play a little with its interface to learn locations of most used functions, but the program can be used easily for professional and high quality design creations.
